Search for Lisa Stebic comes to Lake County

The search for a missing Plainfield woman comes to Lake County this weekend as her high-school classmates celebrate their 20-year reunion here.

Relatives of Lisa Stebic will attend the Libertyville High School Class of 1987 reunion Saturday at the White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills on her behalf. A table with flyers, magnets and information about Stebic's disappearance will be present, too.

Some of the information will feature Stebic's maiden name, Ruttenberg, because that's the name her former classmates would have known, said cousin Don Zimmerman.

Many classmates who've heard about Stebic's disappearance, which has received international publicity, may not realize they went to school with her, Zimmerman said.

"It could help that community realize that one of their own is missing," he said.

Additionally, a public-service announcement about Stebic will be read during Libertyville High's varsity football game tonight. Relatives will display a banner reading findlisasstebic.com during the game, too.

Stebic disappeared April 30 from her home. Her estranged husband, Craig, was the last person to report seeing her alive.

In July, police said they feared Stebic was a victim of foul play and accused her husband of hindering the investigation.

No criminal charges have been filed.

The couple has two children. Lisa Stebic, whose 38th birthday was in May, wouldn't have left her children voluntarily, her family has said.

Anyone with information about Stebic's disappearance should call Plainfield police at (815) 267-7217.
