Palatine Jaycees haunted house: The Palatine Jaycees are seeking volunteers to help in the building and haunting of its annual haunted house. This year, the house will be in the Sears Essentials lot at Northwest Highway and Hicks Road, Palatine. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or have their parents' consent. Party Over Palatine VI: The Rotary Club of Palatine will host Party Over Palatine VI, a fundraiser, from 6 to 10 p.m. today, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. Enjoy live entertainment by Old School, heavy hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine, raffles, live and silent auctions. Proceeds benefit Rotary Green, a new park to be located on the corner of Smith Street and Palatine Road, and local charities. $50 at the door. Barrington Newcomers and Neighbors: The Barrington Newcomers and Neighbors will host an open house for prospective members from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Barrington Area Library, 505 Northwest Highway, Barrington. Child care will be provided for the open house by reservation only. Open to residents of the 60010 ZIP code and District 220, the social organization offers a variety of activities for all interests. Palatine Lions Club: The Palatine Lions Club is sponsoring a free hearing screening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Palatine Township Office, 721 S. Quentin Road. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. During the screening, the club also will accept donations of used keys, cell phones, ink cartridges, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Northwest Chapter of Lyric Opera of Chicago: At 3 p.m. Sunday, the Northwest Chapter of Lyric Opera of Chicago will inaugurate its 2007-08 season, at the home of a member, when Jesse Gram of the Lyric Opera's education department presents an overall view of the Lyric's productions.
