Condell to hold fitness walk, runs
For more than 30 years, Condell Medical Center has combined family fun and fitness.
The Condell Distance Classic will return Sunday to the hospital's Libertyville campus, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave.
Race organizer Kim Albertsen said the event attracts families with the 5K run and walk and 1-mile run, and serious runners who like the 10K race for the safe, appealing neighborhood course.
The event will start with the 5K run and walk at 8:10 a.m. The 1-mile race will start at 8:15 a.m., followed by the 10K race at 9 a.m.
Before the race, Condell Medical Center's physical therapists will demonstrate proper warm-up and cool-down exercises from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Free supervised activities for children ages 5 to 10 years will be available from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
Participants can register at www.signmeup.com or at Condell's Centre Club in Libertyville at 200 W. Golf Road, or Centre Club in Gurnee, 1405 Hunt Club Road.
Individuals can pre-register until 1 p.m. Saturday. The fees are $14 for the 5K run/walk, $9 to join the 1-mile race and $20 to join the 10K run. Fees will be higher on race day.
The 5K and 10K races are USA Track and Field certified. Computerized results will be posted.
Albertson said while the fees will be used toward operating costs, those who register online can make a donation to Condell's children's fund. The fund is used to purchase equipment toward pediatric care.
Registration packets can be picked up at Condell's Centre Club in Libertyville from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Packets can also be picked up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The first 1,300 participants will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt. Food and drink will be available at the finish line.
Awards also will be given for each event, and prizes will be raffled at random. All 1-mile finishers will receive a blue ribbon.
"The amenities are pretty nice to do the race," Albertsen said.
