Vehicles to parade through Round Lake Park Saturday
Follow the parade of cars and motorcycles through the Round Lake area this Saturday to an Oktoberfest promising music, games and food.
The village of Round Lake Park will hold Oktoberfest from 1 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday near the village hall, 203 E. Lake Shore Drive.
Kicking off the day will be a classic car and motorcycle parade, said village trustee Ken Schnur, who is organizing the second annual festival.
Registration to join the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and vehicles will take off at 11:30 a.m. from the police department on Route 134 and Main Street.
Run by motorcycle club Iron Justice, the parade will be open to individuals who own a vehicle and pay the $20 donation to join, Schnur said.
The route will take the riders through Hainesville, Round Lake Beach and Round Lake before coming back to the village hall, where vehicles will be on display.
The Round Lake Area Park District's water cannon also will be displayed, Schnur added.
Iron Justice will donate all parade donations to the Round Lake Park Hainesville Police Department's Shop with a Cop program. Schnur said many members of Iron Justice are police officers who want to support a program important to fellow officers.
"They like to take care of their own," he said. "'Shop with a Cop' is one thing they like to do."
Many attractions await visitors on the village hall grounds when Oktoberfest begins. There will be food and drinks including a beer tent, children's games, hayrides, crafters and a silent auction. Children can visit Stubbles the Clown or enter the moon walk featuring a basketball hoop and slide.
All children are invited to grab a free pumpkin to color for the decorating contest. Schnur said children can then take pumpkins home.
While a DJ will provide music through the event, local musicians also will add to the entertainment.
A group from St. Joseph Grade School in Round Lake, which opened the festival last year, will again perform. And, Michael Dvorak, who teaches music at Murphy School in Round Lake, will bring his daughter Amilia to perform their singing and dancing act.
