Semi goes up in flames in N. Chicago
No injuries were reported in a smoky truck fire Wednesday morning that closed a section of Route 41 for about an hour.
According to the North Chicago Fire Department, diesel fuel in a truck equipped with a flat bed trailer loaded with steel ignited following a collision about 10:30 a.m.
Firefighters said the truck that caught fire was the last in a three-truck convoy of WL Logan Trucking Co., of Canton, Ohio, that was traveling south on Route 41. The vehicle collided with the second truck about a half mile south of Route 137, according to Lt. David Biggs.
"The fuel started on fire," Biggs said. "The main thing was no injuries and no hazardous materials."
Route 41 from Route 137 south was closed for about an hour as the fire was extinguished and fuel cleaned-up. The driver escaped without incident and no other injuries were reported.
"He was fine. He was just mad," Biggs said.
No damage estimate was given. North Chicago police did not provide further detail.
