GOP congressional race grows in 8th District
Gurnee now officially has two residents in the running to represent the 8th Congressional District.
Kirk Morris, 49, late this morning announced his entry into the Republican primary, which will be Feb. 5. Morris appeared before about 30 supporters at a Warren Township veterans memorial outside Gurnee police headquarters.
Morris will face Gurnee resident Ken Arnold and Steve Greenberg of Long Grove in the GOP derby. Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean of Barrington has competition from Lindenhurst's Randi Scheurer.
At his announcement today, Morris said his top issues include improving medial treatment and other services for returning soldiers and solving the illegal immigration problem.
Towns in the 8th Congressional District include Gurnee, Barrington, Palatine, Antioch and Hanover Park. The districts spans portions of Lake, Cook and McHenry counties.
Morris’ son died while fighting for the Marines in 2004, which led to his congressional ambition.
