Name and service must be restored
Joyce Adams' recent letter complaining about people whining about the destruction of Marshall Field's simply defies logic. Marshall Field may have been from Massachusetts but he relocated to Chicago and was a major force in Chicago philanthropy.
Macy's is a corporation that has wantonly destroyed regional institutions to create one U.S. department store not much better than Wal-Mart. While Marshall Field's denoted elegance and grace, Macy's is all about cheapening the whole shopping experience with abysmal merchandise selection compared to Field's and nonexistent customer service by black clad 'associates' more interested in talking among themselves.
We will not be content until Marshall Field's is restored not only in name, but in merchandise and customer service and traditions.
