Violinist Perlman to perform with ESO

The legendary Itzhak Perlman highlights the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Opening Night Gala this weekend.

This gala concert, which will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, will feature the award-winning ESO, led by music director Robert Hanson, in collaboration with violinist Itzhak Perlman. They will be performing works by Beethoven, Strauss and Wagner.

Celebration sponsor is Schleifring Medical Systems, Concert Sponsor is First Community Bank and Guest Artist Sponsor is the Daily Herald.

Hanson will lead the ESO in performances of Wagner's "Entry of the Gods" from "Das Rheingold" and "Ride of the Valkyries" from "Die Walkure"; Beethoven's Violin Concerto; and Strauss's "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks."

Individual tickets start at $65 and are available through the Elgin Symphony Orchestra box office at (847) 888-0404. Box office Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets also may be purchased online at www.ElginSymphony.org.

After the concert will be the Gala Celebration and Auction. Patrons will be able to meet and mingle with the maestro and musicians. This event supports the ESO's many educational programs, aimed at enriching cultural life and learning about music in Elgin and beyond.

Upcoming concerts: Next month, join the ESO's "Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony" Oct. 5-7. During this concert, the ESO will be joined by rising star Nicola Benedetti to perform Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.

On Oct. 19-21, help welcome the Mambo Kings for an evening of Afro-Cuban rhythms and jazz improvisation. The group combines Latin sounds with jazz and rock and roll.
