ECC to offer radio broadcast class

Denny Farrell, host of the "Original Big Band Showcase" heard on radio and the Internet, will be the guest instructor for an Elgin Community College noncredit course for participants interested in recreating a 1940s radio broadcast.

Whether you remember old-time radio drama from your youth or have listened to it on public radio or Prairie Home Companion, find out what it's like to learn a script and then perform it.

An on-air Chicago radio personality, Farrell has been inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame as an announcer. He will teach voice skills, line delivery and timing and developing sound effects and planning the broadcast. The last class will perform a show with a live audience. Cost is $129, $99 for seniors 60 and older.

Classes meet 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 20 through Dec. 6, with the exception of Oct. 18, in the Advance Technology Center Auditorium on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

For registration or information, call the corporate and continuing education department at (847) 622-3036. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted for registration.
