You're invited to tour Hampshire barns

The Hampshire Township Historical Society for the seventh consecutive year will host its historical tour from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

This year, the highlight will be a barn tour throughout the township. As new construction moves west, an unfortunate result is the disappearance of farmland, homesteads, and barns. This self-guided tour of barns will depict some of the common features in original farmsteads.

There will be a display of memorabilia gathered from the township which includes pictures of barns from the area, authentic tools from years past, and more at 16N731 Walker Road (south of Allen Road).

After viewing the display, visitors can then begin the route with a detailed self-guide brochure of stops throughout the township. Society members will be available at the starting location on Walker Road for any questions the public may have between 2 and 4 p.m.

The sites featured on the tours are all privately owned and not open to the public. Please respect the privacy of these properties and stay off them. For information about the free barn tour, call Deanne at (847) 683-2499.

The Hampshire Township Historical Society was established in 2001 in order to preserve history and artifacts of the township. Hampshire, was incorporated in 1876 and has been a growing community with deep history ever since.
