Car show new to Hainesville Fest
The village of Hainesville has planned a full schedule of activities ranging from food, music and now cars at this year's Hainesville Fest.
The third annual village festival will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Union Square Park south of the Avon Township Ball Field.
New this year is a car show. Organizers are hoping area auto enthusiasts will bring their antique, custom and muscle cars to show and converse about, said festival chairman and village trustee Jim Tiffany.
Tiffany said organizers have handed out fliers to auto body shops and to area car club the Voodoo Kings to encourage individuals to bring their vehicles to display.
"We hope to get some response from them," he said.
If individuals are interested in joining the car show, Tiffany said they can call him at the village hall at (847) 223-2032 or e-mail trusteetiffany@hainesville.org.
Speaking of vehicles, the Round Lake Park Hainesville Police Department and Round Lake area and Grayslake fire departments all will bring equipment to view during the festival.
Many activities are planned for children, including a bicycle decorating contest. Children can decorate bikes at home to be judged and win prizes. Judging will begin at 12:15 p.m.
Also for kids, Stubbles and Freckles the Clown will be there from 3:30 to 6:45 p.m. to offer face painting, a magic show and balloon figures.
Prizes can be won at games including a three-legged race, water balloon toss and sack race or try your luck and buy a raffle ticket to win prizes donated by area businesses. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5. Tiffany said winners need not be present to win.
Most activities will require tickets, which cost 50 cents each. Tiffany said the highest price activity may be the pony rides for $2.
A DJ from Off the Record will provide musical entertainment from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Then at 7 p.m. country rock singer Kimberly Wolff will perform.
Tiffany said Wolff has appeared on NBC Chicago as one of the finalists on "Gimme the Mike" and was one of the top 25 finalists for "Fox Idol." She is now working on an upcoming CD.
For the hungry, Charcoal Delights in Grayslake will offer burgers, hot dogs, brats, grilled chicken sandwiches as well as chips and drinks. And vendor Dawgs Corn will offer corn on the cob and invites guests to try its popular deep fried corn. There also will be corn dogs and watermelon.
The Round Lake Park American Legion will provide a beer tent.
