Homeless man charged with murder

A homeless man is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the death of a man in Hanover Park, police said Saturday.

Antonio Pacheco, 33, is charged in the murder of Alexis F. Roman, whose body was found behind a Hanover Park strip mall Thursday.

Roman -- who was also known as Fidel, Alex and Guerito -- died of multiple injuries, mainly to his neck and head, said officials from the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He had multiple lacerations believed to have been caused by someone wielding a tree branch, said Dr. John Ralston of the medical examiner's office.

Police have not confirmed a report from a nearby resident that the dead man was homeless and had been living behind the strip mall for the past several months.

The medical examiner's office said Roman had no known last address.

Pacheco is scheduled for bond court today in Rolling Meadows, police said.
