Disillusioned? Give Green Party a try

A recent survey of 500 likely Illinois voters, conducted by Rasmussen Reports on Aug. 22, shows that a mere 22 percent rate Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich's performance as good or excellent, while an overwhelming 78 percent rate his performance as either fair or poor.

In comparison, former Republican Gov. George Ryan has been convicted in federal court on 22 different criminal counts, including charges of racketeering, fraud, and tax evasion.

This represents what leaders in the Democratic and Republican parties often call a choice between "the lesser of two evils." In my opinion, when you vote for an evil, that may be exactly what you get. Illinois has given both of the big, old, corporate-funded parties many chances to demonstrate their best. Every election cycle, the party bosses assure us that this time things will be different, but I encourage Illinois citizens to remember the saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Let's try a new strategy: Join the Green Party and vote for its candidates. Visit ilgp.org to learn more.
