Elgin
• An Elgin man was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop at 3:45 p.m. Thursday near the bus station downtown. Alberto Hernandez, 24, of 222 Locust St., Apt. 504, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after cocaine was found in the car, and cited for driving while license suspended and no insurance, police said. Darius Brown, 17, of 222 Locust St., Apt. 805, was charged with obstruction of justice when he used a false name, police said. Brown was held in the Kane County jail on $100 bond with a Sept. 21 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center. Hernandez was held on $500 bond with a Sept. 24 court date.
• Gunshots were fired on the 200 block of Terrace Court at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. One person said two or three vehicles were involved and three or four shots were fired. No shell casings were found in the area.
South Elgin
• An Elgin woman who was wanted on a warrant turned herself in to police Friday morning. Olivia Ortiz, age unknown, of 508 Ashland Ave., Elgin, was charged with retail theft, police said. She was released on her signature with a Sept. 13 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
