Man hospitalized after holing up in apartment

A man was hospitalized for evaluation after a seven-hour standoff with police Friday in Naperville.

Naperville police were called to 118 E. Bailey Road at 10:37 a.m. after a 50-year-old woman called to report her boyfriend was alone in her apartment and threatening to hurt himself, police said.

The 35-year-old man wouldn't respond to police, although police heard movement in the apartment, police said.

About 11:40 a.m., members of the Special Response Team set up a command post at the Olive Tree's club house at 200 E. Bailey Road, police said.

All residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

Negotiators did make voice contact with the man, but he was still unwilling to come out until 5:30 p.m., when he surrendered, police said.

The man was taken into custody without incident and taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for evaluation, police said.

No charges have been filed, but the incident is under investigation.
