Barrington High School shows off fine arts department

After the recent folding of the Barrington Area Arts Council, Barrington High School wants residents to know the arts are alive and well in the community.

The school's fine arts department will showcase its vastness and diversity Sunday during the second annual Party in the Park, said fine arts department chairwoman Julie Salk.

The event is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Sunday on the school's front lawn, 616 W. Main Street.

"We are hoping people will come out and see what we are all about," Salk said.

The party will include more than two hours of musical and dance performances, as well as opportunities for those who attend to get involved themselves.

Salk said there will be different stations set up where people can make their own jewelry, create a ceramic sculpture or get a henna tattoos or a face-painting.

With the closing this summer of the Barrington Area Arts Council, Salk said this is a great chance for the community to learn more about what the school has to offer.

"We really have a wealth of programming," Salk said.

Randy's Fresh Lemonade and Woody's Hot Dogs will sell refreshments.

Party in the Park is free for Barrington students and staff with ID's and senior citizens. Admission is $5 for adults and $15 for families.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Barrington fine arts department.
