Jackson, Pfleger missing the point
I believe that the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Father Michael Pfleger could spend their time more wisely by ending their protests on gun manufacturers and spending time attacking the root problem. I also believe that the Daily Herald has better news to report than this waste of time in Lake Barrington.
The problem is not the gun nor the manufacturer; the problem is the culture of the people that are living and dying in our society. The Rev. Jackson should be helping to educate people because educated people don't commit crimes as readily as those of lesser education.
If the individuals committing the attacks on our youth were given something productive to do, had a job or were enrolled in some program to improve their life and those around them, don't you think they would be off the street?
What I see here is a breakdown of values, morals, and honor because of a lack of discipline. Maybe, Jesse needs to get youth involved in a military-style discipline that emphasizes honor and integrity, just what many youths are lacking in their homes. Many are single parent or both parents working; someone needs to step up to the plate, and the Rev. Jackson and Father Pfleger should be the ones to do it. Stop being media-hounds and do something productive. How about focusing their energies on the long-term solutions?
Banning guns has not worked in England; watch the BBC news some night and see how easy it is to get a gun there. It's easier to blame an inanimate object than to find a solution to the real root cause about gun violence in Chicago and America.
