Pavilion Senior Center notes

The following programs are offered to area senior citizens of Wheeling and nearby suburbs. Anyone 55 years or older is welcome to join the activities.

Cards groups: The Canasta Group meets at 1 p.m. Mondays. Intermediate Bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Senior Stretch Classes: Exercises are geared toward beginners as well as advanced students. At 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. Tuesdays.

Bugs computer group: This informative, relaxed session is a beginners group for senior novice computer users that meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays. Each participant sets the lessons for the day. The fee is $5 for members.

Current Affairs Group: The group meets to discuss the affairs of the day as applied to the United States and countries around the world from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Topics are timely and selected by the participants.

Crafts Group: Enthusiasts select project ideas to share among the group, demonstrate, learn crafts from others, and sell their creations to benefit Pavilion programs, from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays.

Bookmobile: The library bookmobile arrives each week from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays to deliver books for checkout and receive books to return.

Knitting Group: All beginners, intermediate and advanced knitters and those interested in the art of crochet are invited to the Happy Hookers Knitting and Crochet Group from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays. There is no fee. Supply lists will be given upon attendance.

German Conversation Group: The "Deutsche Unterhaltungsgruppe" socializes in their native tongue to discuss topics of interest to them from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays.

Hatha Yoga: Hatha Yoga is a relaxation class which includes basic yoga postures. It meets from 9:30 to 10:54 a.m. Fridays. Relaxation, flexibility and muscle building are emphasized.

Oil Painting: For beginners, intermediates and advanced seniors from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. Individual attention is given to all students.

Help wanted: The Pavilion is looking for dynamic seniors to be volunteer instructors and coaches for the SeniorNet program to help other seniors learn computers. Call (847) 459-2666, ext. 4131.

• Helping Hands Drivers are always needed to assist and drive seniors for doctor appointments, testing, etc. Drivers may choose their service and select appointments around their schedule. Call the Pavilion for more information.

• Meals on Wheels Drivers are needed to distribute lunches to homebound seniors. Drivers may select the day or days they are able to fit into their schedule. Call the Pavilion for more information.
