Grayslake eyes 600-acre development

Development might be in the offing for Grayslake on a mammoth parcel near Peterson Road, Route 83 and Alleghany Road.

Skokie-based Alter Group recently filed a petition to bring 600 acres within Grayslake's municipal boundaries, Assistant Village Manager Matt Formica said Thursday. Other pieces of land Alter Group might build on already are in Grayslake.

Alter Group Senior Vice President Stephen Park couldn't be reached for comment.

Formica said part of the Alter Group land is a component of what's known as Central Range in Grayslake, a 954-acre region around Route 83, Alleghany Road and Peterson Road.

Plans at Central Range call for commercial businesses, offices and homes.

If built, Central Range would be phased in over seven to 10 years. Local government and economic development officials have said the area would be desirable for businesses because of the availability of utilities and larger parcels.

Formica said Alter Group is expected to meet with representatives from local school districts and other governmental units about whatever ideas it might have for the 600 acres.
