Briefs: Foreclosures reach an all-time high
WASHINGTON -- Homeowners, struggling to deal with sharp increases in their adjustable mortgage payments, got hit with a record number of foreclosure notices in the spring. A quarterly report released Thursday by the Mortgage Bankers Association showed the number of homeowners who got foreclosure notices in the April-June quarter hit an all-time high of 0.65 percent, up from 0.58 percent in the first three months of the year. It marked the third consecutive quarter a new record has been set.
Digital billboards coming to area
CHICAGO - Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago announced Thursday it is bringing digital billboards to the Chicago metropolitan market. Digital billboards display static messages that resemble standard printed billboards when viewed but allow advertisers to remotely and instantaneously change messages as needed to suit the needs of their advertising campaigns. It enables advertisers to deliver real-time information.
Lehman Brothers to lay off 850
NEW YORK -- Lehman Brothers Holdings said Thursday 850 workers will be laid off as the financial institution scales back its struggling mortgage business.
Eight area printers win Benny awards
CHICAGO -- Eight Chicago-area printers will be awarded the Benny, the highest honor in the 2007 Premier Print Awards. The winning area firms are Darwill in Hillside, Elk Grove Graphics in Elk Grove Village, Jet in Downers Grove, JohnsByrne Co. in Niles, Rider Dickerson in Bellwood, Rochelle Printing Co. in Rochelle, Segerdahl Group in Wheeling and The Garvey Group in Niles. JohnsByrne Co. will be awarded two Bennys. A total of 90 Bennys will be awarded to firms worldwide. The Premier Print Awards are hosted by the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation and are in their 58th year. This year, 5,100 entries were received from printing and graphic arts firms from around the world.
