Carpentersville
• Police on patrol at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday say they saw a man hiding in the shadows of a home on the 100 block of Birch Street. The man was searched and a bag containing 0.16 grams of cocaine was found in his right front pocket, a report said. Luis F. Soto, 17, of 117 Birch St., Carpentersville, was charged with the possession of a controlled substance, police said. Soto was unable to post a $1,500 bond and was sent to the Kane County jail.
• Two men who had been arrested before on drug charges were seen late Tuesday by police on the 2000 block of Berkshire Circle on bicycles. The two fled from police, but were caught nearby. Both were searched and 11 bags containing 15.65 grams of marijuana were found on one of them, a report said. Safrandra Lindsey, 26, of an unknown address on Hampton Drive in Carpentersville, was charged with possession of marijuana, police said. Lindsey remains in the Carpentersville lockup with a $300 bond and a Sept. 21 court date in Elgin.
Elgin
• A car was stopped at 11 p.m. Tuesday on the 100 block of Center Street after it drove around a "road closed" sign, police said. The driver reached to the back seat, popped a small plastic bag containing 0.3 grams of cocaine into his mouth and tried to swallow it, a report said. Jeffrey S. Broger, age unknown, of 118 Center St., Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, attempted obstruction of justice and resisting a police officer, police said. Because of an afternoon bond hearing, Broger remained in the Elgin lockup Wednesday evening. His bond was set at $1,500 with a Sept. 19 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• Police said a man stole five cartons of cigarettes from the Mobil gas station at 601 Villa St. around 11 p.m. Tuesday. The cigarettes were valued at $212.29. Devell T. Scott, 37, of 2015 Muirfield Circle, Elgin, was arrested near Yarwood and St. Charles streets and was charged with two counts of felony retail theft, police said. Scott had previously been convicted of retail theft, so his charges were enhanced, police said. His bond was set at $4,000 and remained at the Elgin lockup Wednesday evening.
• Two Elgin men were arrested Tuesday on charges that they failed to notify police of an address change by a convicted sex offender. Johnnie Johnson, 45, of 305 W. Chicago St., Apt. 5, and Darnell E. Wilson, 35, of 163 Seneca St., both were charged, police said. Johnson was sent to the Kane County jail with a $3,500 bond and a Sept. 13 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center. Wilson remains at the Elgin lockup with a $1,000 bond and a Sept. 20 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• Security at Meijer, 815 S. Randall Road, watched at noon Tuesday as a man loaded his pockets with lipstick, mascara and face powder and then walked out of the store, a police report said. Wilson Hernandez, 42, of 1397 Cimarron Drive, Elgin, was charged with retail theft and obstruction of justice, police said. A silver and black pellet gun and a can of mace were taken from Hernandez before he was taken into custody, police said. He was sent to the Kane County jail with a $2,500 bond.
• Between 5 p.m. Aug. 31 and 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, vandals caused approximately $8,000 worth of damage to the construction site of the second green at a golf course under construction at 3500 Bowes Road. Police said tire marks and deep ruts were made and the underlying drainage system might be damaged, too.
• A storage facility on the 10N500 block of Nestler Road was broken into between Aug. 31 and Tuesday. A microwave oven, an oven and a dishwasher valued at $2,140 were stolen. Police said the padlock and latch assembly were damaged on the storage facility.
South Elgin
A green all-terrain vehicle valued at $10,000 was stolen Monday night or Tuesday morning from a shed in the back yard on the 100 block of North LaFox Street, police said. The keys to the ATV were inside the home and not in the ignition. Police said drag marks showed the vehicle was pulled onto a gravel/asphalt road next to the shed.
Kane County
• A Hampshire man was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital after his motorcycle hit a car at Powers Road and Apache Lane in Rutland Township at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday. Niklas M. Kruger, 26, 202 State St., was driving north on Powers Road when he hit a car that was turning left, according to a police report. Kruger was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to the report. He was listed in fair condition at the hospital Wednesday.
• A bicycle valued at $150 was stolen off a residence in the 100 block of Birchwood Road in Dundee Township Aug. 22.
• Someone broke into the Central High School stadium concession stand at 44W625 Plato Road in Plato Township between 8 p.m. Aug. 27 and 6 a.m. Aug. 28. Nothing was taken.
St. Charles
• Ronald J. Overby, 44, of 31W798 Golf Road, Elgin, was arrested at 12:33 a.m. Sunday and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without insurance, driving while license suspended, speeding and riding a motorcycle without specialized equipment on the 100 block of Prairie Street, police said. Overby was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 4.
• Spray-paint graffiti damaged a $3,020 screen tarp Aug. 21 or 22 at the St. Charles North High School tennis courts, 255 Red Gate Road. A cafeteria window, classroom trailer, ticket booth and several doors also were spray painted, but were repairable.
