Elk Grove man indicted on more counts of obstruction

An Elk Grove Village man charged with obstruction of justice in the murder of a Villa Park woman faces additional legal trouble.

A DuPage County grand jury this week indicted Robert L. Edwards, 40, on five additional counts of obstruction of justice in the March 15 slaying of Becky Klein.

Klein's girlfriend, Nicole Abusharif, 26, who was Edwards' former co-worker, has been charged with murder in the case. Edwards has been accused of hampering the police probe.

The new indictment alleges Edwards lied to police with the intent of obstructing "the prosecution of himself for first-degree murder," as well as obstruct the prosecution of Abusharif.

It states Edwards falsely told police he had not spoken with Abusharif for 12 days prior to Klein's disappearance. It also alleges Edwards lied as to his whereabouts the night Klein died, saying he was getting a haircut in Elk Grove Village.

Edwards' attorney Brian Ruxton said his client would plead innocent Tuesday, his next scheduled court date.

Edwards was first charged with obstruction March 23.

Abusharif reported Klein missing on March 16. After an intensive search, she was found in her car trunk in the garage, suffocated with a plastic bag.
