Buffalo Grove Days a success as always

Paulette Greenberg had an exhausting five days over the past weekend, but in a good kind of way.

The co-chair of Buffalo Grove Days said she was more than happy with the way the Labor Day event turned out.

"We put our order in with the weatherman early, and he cooperated greatly," she said. "We couldn't have asked for anything better."

Greenberg estimated that between 40,000 to 50,000 people passed through Buffalo Grove Days over its five days.

"Bingo was a full tent on Thursday," she said. "We were pretty crowded the entire weekend."

She said many of those who attended had also been to other festivals in the area and rated BG Days the best around.

Greenberg said the disability program on Monday morning was as well attended as ever, with the committee putting together 500 lunches. The grill challenge also became a bigger deal, with 20 grillers compared to the eight last year.

The group is already thinking about Buffalo Grove Days next year, which will also fall on the event's and the village's 50th anniversary.

The theme will be the '50s, and the committee is already brainstorming.

The committee is also going to be organizing a classic car show and sock hop in June to celebrate the anniversary.

"If we can put on a five-day event, a one-day event will be easy," Greenberg said.

The District 96 board reviewed the test comparisons at its meeting Tuesday and congratulated teachers who have done so much with comparatively less money.

The board compared this to the No. 4-ranking Bannockburn district, which has 166 students and spends $14,795 each.

The district also has several schools that ranked first in the county for their grade level, including Prairie Elementary School for the third-graders and Kildeer Countryside for fifth-graders.

Artistic expression: The Buffalo Grove Arts Commission is offering a package of 10 cards decorated by Nancy Rudich, a local artist. The cards are selling for $10 for a pack of 10, but a single card can be purchased for $3.
