Teen dies in Long Grove pool

The Lake County sheriff's police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old who was found in a Long Grove pool Wednesday.

Detective Sgt. Jeff Burke said the teenager, who authorities are not yet identifying, was a construction worker at the home at 2320 Coach Road.

"He was there with his brother and cousin doing drywall at the residence," Burke said.

The Long Grove fire department was called to the residence at 10:42 a.m. Wednesday, initially for a reported fall victim.

Burke said the victim's brother and cousin had found him by that point and pulled him out of the pool.

"They were on the property all together and, at one point, they were looking for him," Burke said.

The fire department said it was unknown at the time they arrived on the scene if the 16-year-old was breathing or not. He was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m.

Burke said the Cook County medical examiner is still trying to determine the exact cause of death. The fire department said the victim may have hit his head when he fell in the pool.

"Right now the family members are telling us he did not know how to swim," Burke said.

Police said they could not comment on what exactly happened during the incident or how the 16-year-old ended up in the pool until they had a chance to piece together information.

The fire department said the teenager was found in the deep end of the pool, which was 12 feet in depth. The in-ground pool went from 3 to 12 feet, the department said.

The residents of the home were not present at the time, police said, and arrived back a short while after the fall.
