St. Charles man charged in Florida identity theft case
A 55-year-old St. Charles man is accused of using his computer to steal a Florida woman's identity and then bilk her out of nearly $1,900.
David A. Pollock, of 809 Wildrose Springs Drive, was charged with felony counts of identity theft and computer fraud after a joint investigation by St. Charles police and the Lee County, Fla., sheriff's office, officials said Tuesday.
Pollock also faces one misdemeanor count of violating an order of protection the victim had against him. His relationship with the 55-year-old woman was unclear.
Police began investigating Pollock after the woman reported May 17 in Florida that her identity had been stolen.
Investigators said Pollock used his home computer to take out a high-interest, $750 loan in the woman's name and withdraw $1,138.87 from her bank account.
The Kane County state's attorney's office authorized charges last week, and Pollock turned himself over to police Friday morning.
He is free on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Sept. 13.
