Wisconsin man charged in June 27 Gurnee robbery

Authorities have charged a 39-year-old Wisconsin man in the June 27 robbery of a Gurnee bank.

The FBI alleges that David Thompson, 39, of West Bend, made off with about $24,000 after jumping a counter at First Bank, 6121 Washington St., and grabbing money from an open vault, according to an FBI affidavit.

The vault was open at the time because the bank was undergoing an audit, said the affidavit, written by FBI Agent Dana Bloss.

Thompson was aided in the robbery by a woman, identified only as Individual A, who went into the bank beforehand and then told Thompson the layout of the bank, according to the affidavit. The woman, who told police about Thompson on Aug. 25, has not been charged in the robbery. Thompson was interviewed by authorities Aug. 27, the affidavit said.

Thompson is in custody in Milwaukee and awaiting extradition, said a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office. Thompson will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shoshana L. Gillers.

No court date has yet been set, Gillers said.
