Theft from athletic locker room under investigation in Grayslake
Authorities are investigating a theft from the Grayslake North High School boys' athletic locker room that may have involved up to six victims.
Tim Warner, a Grayslake police school resource officer assigned to the north campus on Route 83, said today two football players have filed reports on electronics and money stolen from their lockers while they were on the practice field.
Warner said the theft happened while participants in various sports were outside between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday. He said athletes in football and other fall sports share the locker room.
One senior football player reported as stolen his iPod valued at $110 and a wallet with a $100 gasoline card and $50 in cash. Warner said a sophomore football player's $250 iPod was pilfered.
It's not known if the dressing quarters was locked when the thefts occurred, Warner said. He also couldn't say if forced entry was used to remove the items and money from lockers.
He said images captured by a camera outside the locker room will be studied for possible leads.
Warner said the two football players filed their police reports Thursday night. The other athletes followed a directive from sports coaches and informed Grayslake North deans on Friday.
He said the theft was significant enough to warrant police reports as soon as possible from all athletes who had items stolen from their lockers. He wishes the athletes had approached him about the thefts instead of the deans.
"Most teachers and coaches don't understand I'm in the school everyday," Warner said.
