Symphony holding contest for high school musicians

The North Suburban Symphony invites young musicians to apply for the 2007 James Glacking Young Musicians Competition.

The contest is open to vocalists and instrumentalists, except pianists, in ninth through 12th grade. Interested students must reside in either Lake or northern Cook County. Submit an application, along with a CD or DVD of two contrasting selections and an entry fee to Melinda Vajdic, 1131 Osterman Ave., Deerfield, IL 60015. Forms are available from the music departments of most area high schools or at northsubsymphony.org.

Entries must be postmarked by Oct. 1. Finalists will perform in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13. Cash prizes will be presented, and the first-place winner will have the opportunity to perform as soloist with the North Suburban Symphony. For details, call Melinda Vajdic at (847) 374-0339.
