Man with dangerous past escapes mental health center

A man with a history of armed robbery and homicide has escaped from the Elgin Mental Health Center.

Tobert Walls, 32, escaped from the center's forensic unit about 8 p.m. Monday, where he'd been serving a sentence since July 17 for amed robbery, Elgin police said.

His last known address before that had been on the 9000 block of Colfax Avenue in Chicago.

Elgin police spokeswoman Tamara Welter said Walls should be considered dangerous.

The circumstances of his escape remain under investigation.
