Cougars' playoff hopes end

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Kane County Cougars' exciting second-half playoff drive came to an end Sunday afternoon, as they lost Game 1 of a doubleheader 4-3 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The Cougars rebounded in Game 2 and vented some frustration with a 13-5 win.

The Cougars, knowing they had to win the rest of their games to have a shot at the Midwest League's postseason, trailed 2-0 in Game 1 entering the fifth inning when they rallied to pull even. In the sixth, Sean Doolittle hit an RBI double off the right-field wall in the sixth for a 3-2 Cougars lead before the Rattlers tied it again in the bottom of the inning.

The hosts won it in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk, ending the game and eliminating the Cougars from the playoffs.

The Cougars (39-30) will conclude the 2007 season today with a 1:05 p.m. game the Rattlers.
