Errors in coverage of abortion protest
A short time ago, I read a Daily Herald editorial lamenting the demise of the newspaper as a important source for news, specifically the importance of newspapers in reporting local news and events.
Imagine my surprise when I read the coverage of a local rally, held Saturday Aug. 25, against the Planned Parenthood abortion/surgical center opening in Aurora. The Daily Herald more than doubled the size of the abortion supporters (there were less than two- dozen at the height of the rally -- not 50 as published in the Daily Herald), and cut by more than half the size of those opposed to this facility (police reported 1,200, Daily Herald reported 500).
Also, there were no shouts of "baby killer" to be heard anywhere during this rally and the only people who were bused in were from the parking lots of two local churches because they did not want to overwhelm the available parking.
I know the Daily Herald fervently wants to believe that DuPage County is a hotbed of liberal activism, that Tammy Duckworth actually won the congressional election, and that abortion is only about a woman's "right" and not the taking of a human life at its most vulnerable stages. However, DuPage County remains overwhelmingly conservative, Tammy lost, and support for unrestricted abortion is failing nationwide.
