The St. Charles school board will meet Tuesday to pick its newest member. The board plans to convene at 8:30 p.m. at the district office, 201 S. Seventh St. Members are expected to deliberate in closed session, then appoint one of six candidates to replace Chris Hansen, who resigned in July. The board must make an appointment by Wednesday, according to law.

Business tip breakfasts set

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is rolling out a program of educational sessions intended help local businesses grow and thrive. The monthly Business Development Breakfasts will be based on subject matter related to the needs of small businesses. Topics will include effective, low-cost marketing tactics; e-mail marketing; best business practices; back-to-basics management strategies; and some just-plain-fun motivational themes. The first is at 8 a.m. Sept. 11 at Baker Community Center at 101 S. Second St. (Route 31) in St. Charles. It is free for members, $20 for others. Depot Deals needs sellers

Spaces are still available for the Depot Deals sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Metra station on Third Street in Geneva. Cost is $50. You can sell business inventory, art, crafts, antiques, garage sale items, baked goods or whatever you have that can be sold. Vendors keep 100 percent of the sales. 'Career Night' in St. Charles

Registration is open for St. Charles School District 303 middle schoolers who want to attend the second annual "Glimpse of the Future Career Night." The event, set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30, is a project of the Gifted-Talented Resource Group. It will be at Wredling Middle School, 1200 Dunham Road. All District 303 students can register through Oct. 10 at gtrg-d303.org. The fair last year included engineers, doctors and FBI agents. Volleyball clinic at East

The St. Charles East High School Girls Volleyball Team will have a volleyball clinic for girls in third through sixth grades Sept. 23. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1020 Dunham Road. The cost is $30 and includes a gift and admission a volleyball match. Registration is open through Sept. 15.
