Bond set for attempted abduction suspect

Bond was set at $500,000 this morning for Thomas Siebert, the 52-year-old Elgin man arrested in connection with the attempted abduction of an Elgin Community College student.

Siebert was positively identified by both the victim and witnesses as the person who approached the 21-year-old college student from Aurora in the collegeȢ₈¬Ã¢â€žˆ¢s parking lot. He punched her in the face until she fell to the ground, then tried to drag her into his vehicle, Elgin police said.

Siebert, of 91 Brookside Drive in Elgin, was arrested Saturday and charged with attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint and two counts of battery, police said.

The victim said she saw Siebert roughly 20 minutes before the attack, according to police reports. He was walking on Spartan Drive at ECC and she had to drive around him, reports said.

When she returned to her car around 5:17 p.m., he walked toward her and she asked him, "Can I help you?"

The woman was punched three times and fell to the ground, police said.

Siebert started dragging the woman toward his vehicle when a witness started shouting. Siebert fled east on Spartan Drive. The woman was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later released.

Elgin police and Elgin Community College police passed a community alert bulletin with a composite drawing of the offender, which helped lead them to Siebert, police said.

Siebert was arrested at his house in Elgin and is in custody at the Elgin Police Department. He is due to appear in court at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 in Kane County.
