Losses getting laughable
CLEVELAND -- Maybe White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen simply exhausted all of his anger the past few days.
After the Sox blew a 5-0 lead and lost to the Indians 8-5 at Jacobs Field on Friday night, Guillen was calm and collected as he sat in his office.
"It's getting to the point where you want to laugh,'' Guillen said after the White Sox fell for the 17th time in the last 20 games.
It all fell apart with two outs in the eighth inning, as neither relief pitcher Mike Myers nor Mike MacDougal could get the final out.
Myers allowed a walk and an RBI single and was lifted for MacDougal. The struggling right-hander allowed an RBI single, 2 straight walks and a 3-run double to Casey Blake, which snapped a 5-5 tie.
MacDougal appeared to be out of the jam when Ryan Garko grounded to the left side, but the ball caught the lip of the grass and jumped over shortstop Juan Uribe's head for a single.
"It was a rough one,'' MacDougal said. "The groundball takes a bad hop and after that, I couldn't throw the ball where I wanted to.''
It's been a rough season for MacDougal (1-5, 6.49), who has allowed 7 runs over his last 3 innings.
"It's hard, because his arm and stuff are good,'' Guillen said. "Sometimes the kid comes out and he's unbelievable. Then the next day, you don't know exactly what you're going to get.''
Sox starter Mark Buehrle was cruising early, holding Cleveland without a hit until Travis Hafner singled with two outs in the fourth inning.
Buehrle went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.
"That's just kind of the way things are going,'' Buehrle said. "It seems like it's been happening to us all year.''
Fresh troops: Rosters can expand today, and the White Sox are expected to bring up a few players from Class AAA Charlotte.
Catcher Donny Lucy is on the list. Pitcher Nick Masset is also being considered.
Turn the page: After making 3 throwing errors in the third inning during Thursday's loss at Texas, Andy Gonzalez was back at third base for the White Sox against the Indians.
"I was real upset because the errors took us out of the game,'' Gonzalez said. "I've only played a couple games at third base this season, but it doesn't matter. They were routine throws and I make them nine out of 10 times. I just took it as being part of the game. Today's a new day.''
