Murder suspect arrested in S. Elgin

A South Elgin man wanted a gang-related murder in Minneapolis was arrested early Friday morning, authorities said.

Everado Ramirez-Cruz, 24, of 1025 Center St., was arrested without incident just after midnight by agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and South Elgin police, authorities said.

Ramirez-Cruz was wanted on an arrest warrant for murder by the Minneapolis Police Department, authorities said.

"Minneapolis P.D. worked with our Marshals Service up there," said John O'Malley, chief deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Chicago. "They sent the lead down to us.

"It's my understanding Minneapolis already picked him up," O'Malley said. "Must have waived extradition. He's on his way back there."

Minneapolis police could not be reached for comment.

South Elgin police said the U.S. Marshals Service contacted them Thursday to say they had received a tip that Ramirez-Cruz was inside the house on Center Street, and that agents had the house under surveillance.

"We don't know how long he was living on Center Street," South Elgin Police Chief Christopher Merritt said. "But he had an Elgin warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol."
