Garbage contract approved

Aurora city officials this week approved a new garbage contract with Allied Waste. Residents will continue using a sticker program but will now pay a monthly $3 recycling fee, which starts in January. Seniors 65 and older will receive a $1 discount on the monthly fee. The sticker plan maintains a $2.35 tag per bag for the next three years. In 2010-12, sticker prices will jump to $2.60 and the recycling fee will increase to $3.35. The plan approved by aldermen includes unlimited unbundled brush pickup and eight-week fall leaf pickup, as well as options for garbage carts.
