Special needs support group to start meeting

Special Kids, Special Families is beginning its sixth year as a support group for parents of children with special needs.

The first meeting of the year will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Protected Tomorrows, 103 Schelter Road, just south of Route 22 between Milwaukee and Prairie Road, in Lincolnshire. The topic will be "Navigating the Social Journey -- Without a Road Map."

Dr. Josh Price and Dr. Peter Rastrelli will discuss what a social skill deficit looks like, how these deficits affect educational progress, philosophical positions on social skill programs and how to choose the right group for a child. There is no charge for the program.

In addition to their private practice, which specializes in helping children with social skills difficulties, Price and Rastrelli both serve as school psychologists in public schools.

Special Kids, Special Families is a support group for parents of children with special needs of all ages and from all school districts. For more information or to R.S.V.P. for the meeting, call Marilyn Green-Rebnord at (847) 821-7740, Rachel Langtry at (847) 478-9545 or Chris Eng at (847) 913-1812.
