Briefs: Kane tax bills due

The second installment of property taxes is due Saturday. If you need a copy of your tax bill, call the Kane County treasurer's office at (630) 232-3565. To check the payment status of your taxes or to print your bill, go to www.co.kane.il.us/treasurer. If you're mailing your payment, the envelope must be postmarked by Saturday. You can also pay by credit card over the Internet or use the 24-hour drop box located behind Building A of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Youths to picket clinic

Local teens plan to picket the Planned Parenthood clinic on Aurora's east side from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The Youth for Truth rally will be held at 3051 E. New York St., with Chicago's Pro-Life Action League spokesman Eric Scheidler addressing the crowd. The clinic is scheduled to open Sept. 18.

Coffee shop celebrates

Luau Coffee in downtown Wasco is celebrating its fourth year with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday on Route 64 next to the Dairy Queen in Campton Hills.

Library closed a few days

The Geneva Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday for Labor Day. It will also be closed Sept. 7 for staff training.

Geneva schools goals

Geneva School District 304's booklet outlining the 2007-08 Purpose, Goals and Administrative Action Plans is online at www.geneva304.org. It includes the actions that will be taken to achieve goals in reading, problem solving and success for all students. Geneva's Tradition of Excellence and continuous improvement process are discussed and major studies of the school board listed. It also has a list of ways to become active in your local school and recognition received by the district last year. Printed copies will be distributed to families of elementary-age students in coming weeks and will be available at the administrative offices, Geneva High School and Geneva Middle Schools North and South.

New N. Aurora playground

Fox Valley Park District trustees have approved a $125,000 contract with Aurora's M/M Peters Construction to build a new playground in North Aurora's Island Park. The 10-acre site's existing playground was installed in 1990. The project includes renovating the parking lot and creating a gathering spot for festivals and community events. Work on the project begins later this summer.
