Wheeling boy burned by hot oil dies

The Wheeling 5-year-old severely scalded when he knocked over a turkey fryer with his bicycle has died.

Israel Hernandez died late Wednesday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. That was three days after he crashed into the fryer while riding around his house, severely burning about half his body.

His parents both were burned on their hands when they came to the aid of their son, who was airlifted to the hospital.
