People with disabilities can get a cart ride at Buffalo Grove Days
It's a labor of love for Rick Kahen.
Each day and well into each night of Buffalo Grove Days, he and others in the Commission for Residents with Disabilities run two special stretch golf cart courtesy shuttles, transporting seniors and people with disabilities from the handicapped parking areas to and from the festival grounds.
A liaison to the BG Days Committee since 1995, and himself an amputee from a bout with osteogenic sarcoma 35 years ago, he understands the needs of people who have some difficulty getting around.
And, as chairman of the disabilities commission since 2000, he takes a personal interest in making sure seniors and others can enjoy all that Buffalo Grove Days has to offer.
Need a ride? Just look for the carts. The only prospective riders who are turned down are able-bodied teenagers, Kahen said laughing.
