Briefs: Playgounrd dedication canceled
The St. Charles Park District has canceled a playground dedication planned for today because of flooding. The Community Service Club Playground at Mount St. Mary Park along Route 31 will be rescheduled.
Give blood, rock out
All people who give blood at Heartland Blood Center's 14 sites starting today through Tuesday will receive a music download card for five songs. There are centers at 649 W. State House race is on
Carpentersville businessman Jim Krenz on Tuesday will officially announce his candidacy for state representative in the 49th District. Republican Tim Schmitz of Batavia has held the office since 1999. Krenz, also a Republican, will hold a news conference at noon at Amy Plumbing Heating and Cooling, 39 N. Western Ave., Carpentersville, outlining issues central to his campaign.
Cops: Playmate threatened:
A 20-year-old Aurora man faces up to three years in prison after being charged with threatening a former Playboy Bunny over the Internet. Edson F. Diaz, of the 1000 block of North Avenue, was charged Monday with sending threatening e-mails to a former Playmate who now lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., police said. The woman contacted Playboy Enterprises Corporate Security, who alerted in Aurora police detectives. The woman told police the e-mails began in April and continued until Diaz's arrest. He has a Sept. 13 court date.
Wash those hands
In observation of National Preparedness Month in September, the Fox River Chapter of the Red Cross is sponsoring a "Clean Hands Save Lives" campaign. In addition to distributing hand-washing information detailing useful "when" and "how" tips, the chapter will hand out free 8-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer to adults and free "Scrubby Bear" membership kits to children. Both are available at the chapter office at 121 N. Second St., Suite G in St. Charles, beginning Saturday through the end of the month, while supplies last. Chamber meeting Sept. 6
The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce will have a small-business roundtable meeting Sept. 6. The event is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Szechwan Restaurant, 117 W. Main St. It is open to chamber members only. Admission is $10.
Basketball tryouts
