Intersection must be made safer

I would like to urge action be taken to reconstruct the intersection of Grand Avenue and Linden/Granada in Lindenhurst.

According to the Lindenhurst Police Department, there have been 26 accidents at that intersection over the last one year.

One of my family members was involved in an accident at that intersection in April of this year.

This afternoon my husband witnesses an accident that resulted in the fatality of a motorcycle rider.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the motorcycle rider and to the young person who was involved in the accident.

Neither one of those families' lives will ever be the same again. It is heartbreaking to imagine what they must be going through.

I felt strongly compelled to write this letter to the editor to ask that the community take swift action to have this intersection restructured to decrease the number of accidents there and to make the intersection safer.

I don't want to see another member of our community injured or killed due to an intersection that we know is unsafe.
