Family claims nursing center neglected 82-year-old

The family of an 82-year-old man who died last November filed a lawsuit Tuesday against a Long Grove rehabilitation center they said neglected him.

Michail Aronov was at Alden Long Grove Rehabilitation and Health canter between Dec. 27, 2005 and Sept. 8, 2006, following a fall, said attorney Steven Levin.

Levin, who filed the suit on behalf of the Aronov family, said the family grew concerned when Aronov wasn't eating while in the care of the rehabilitation center.

Representatives from Alden on Tuesday said they could not comment on the lawsuit.

"This is the first we've heard about this matter and so we cannot comment," said Victoria Wolpoff, spokeswoman for the center.

Levin said Alden was cited by the Illinois Department of Public Health for neglect and improper nursing care after Aronov lost 15 percent of his body weight in three months.

Although Aronov ultimately died from complications of sepsis, urinary obstruction and a urinary tract infection, the family believes the malnutrition and dehydration he suffered from lead to the death, Levin said.
