Deerfield historical society to hold festival
The 32nd annual Deerfield Area Historical Society Fall Fest will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Deerfield Historic Village, Deerfield Road and Kipling Place.
The free event will feature a variety of children's activities, a classic car show, food, entertainment, historic building tours, craft demonstrations, a book sale and fun for the entire family, reflecting Deerfield's past.
Children can try their hand at vintage games and play with reproduction 19th century toys. A blacksmith and other artisans will demonstrate traditional crafts. Musical entertainment will feature the Traveling Folk Music Show with Bob Gand and Lana Rae, the Deerfield Community Concert Band and the Hummers and Strummers.
Visitors may tour five buildings of historic interest, including the oldest standing building in Lake County, the Caspar Ott log house (1837), a farmhouse (1854), a one-room schoolhouse and a carriage house featuring an exhibit of vintage carriages and farm implements. The museum center currently features exhibits on "Deerfield History" from the first settlers through the 1950s and "Vintage Baby Clothes."
Admission is free. All profits from the Fall Fest will be used to help restore the buildings in the Historic Village. For more information, call (847) 948-0680.
