Archdiocese to hold Mass near site of new church in Antioch Township

The Archdiocese of Chicago will hold Mass Saturday near Antioch at its first new church in eight years.

The inaugural service at St. Raphael the Archangel is scheduled for 4 p.m., with a second Mass following at 6 p.m.

Three Sunday services under the direction of the Rev. John Jamnicky are scheduled for 7, 9 and 11 a.m.

The church was built in a renovated barn in Antioch Township on Route 173, just east of Route 45.

The barn seats 200 people and will be used for about five years. The archdiocese plans to build a church adjacent to the barn on 40 acres along Route 45 it has owned for the last decade.

That church will seat 1,500 to 1,600 people and cost $15 million to $20 million to build.

For a complete story on the church opening see Thursday’s Daily Herald.
