Closing arguments to begin this afternoon in mob trial
Closing arguments in the Family Secrets mob trial were to begin this afternoon. today, the judge in the case indicated after all sides rested this morning.
There was little further testimony this morning in the case which accuses Frank Calabrese Sr. of Oak Brook, James Marcello of Lombard, Joseph Lombardo of Chicago, Paul Schiro of Arizona and Anthony Doyle of Wickenburg, Arizona of racketeering conspiracy.
Instead, the government and several defendants stipulated to last bits of evidence to speed things along.
One of the exhibits involved tape recordings submitted by James Marcello's lawyers. In those tapes are recordings of warrant-issued wiretaps of Rocky Infelise's home on the night mobsters Anthony and Michael Spilotro disappeared in 1986. The two later turned up dead.
The tapes recorded calls Infelise made and received, apparently making plans to have dinner with a friend that evening.
The government's star witness, Nick Calabrese, has said that he saw Rocky Infelise that night in the home near Bensenville where the brothers were killed. He also testified that Infelise attended a meeting after the murders at a Baker's Square.
For its part, the government called a FBI agent who testified that when he questioned Doyle in 2005, Doyle maintained he hadn't seen Frank Calabrese in over 20 years. In fact, Doyle was video taped visiting Calabrese in prison within just a few years of that interview.
