Non-toxic ways to get rid of ants

You walk into the kitchen and a parade of ants is having a field day on your countertop. What do you do?
Skip the ant spray next time and try some other less toxic methods. Try using soapy water in a spray bottle. Ants detest that.
Another family secret: Use spice-rack chili powder. Inside or out, it's safe, inexpensive and nontoxic and ants avoid it like the plague.
