Praise for way mob trial was reported
The Italian-American One Voice Coalition, a national network of organizations and activists enabling the Italian-American community to act as one united voice when dealing with defamation, discrimination and negative stereotyping, is extremely pleased with how the Daily Herald covered the news regarding the "Family Secrets" trial.
Your articles were short, devoid of sensationalism, bare-bones and not a front page lead-in news line to grab readers, but to just present a short, uncolored, factual presentation of this news item. While the other papers went overboard with the usual Mafia pap linked to gangsters with Italian names, which constitutes less than one-tenth of 1 percent of actual Italian-American crime, the Daily Herald once again used a more "sterile" approach in reporting the same news item.
Many newspapers seem to promote and hype these mob news stories ad nauseam, and seem to give them more coverage than the corporate thieves that embezzled billions of dollars. Can it be that they have a vested interest in promoting this negative image of Italian-Americans?
We thank you for your fair and balanced coverage.
