Fully customize your home at Amber Shores

The Auburn ranch model opens at Amber Shores in Lake Villa, where single-family homes start in the mid-$200,000s.

The Camden kitchen at Amber Shores features a center island, maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances and ceramic tile floors.

Modern Homes is introducing two new models at Amber Shores, a community of 31 semi-custom homes in Lake Villa. Featuring three ranch plans and four two-story designs with 1,400 to over 2,500 square feet, these homes range in price from the mid-$200,000s to the low $300,000s.

Amber Shores was named after a 13-year-old girl who died in a hit-and-run accident by a drunk driver near the community site. The Modern Homes family wanted to remember Amber Lovitz and dedicated the community name -- Amber Shores -- in her memory.

Sixteen of the homes back up to a wooded conservation area featuring miles of walking trails used for biking and hiking. Within the community, there's a picnic area with tables, a basketball court and a playground.

Every home can be fully customized. Some home buyers have opted to close off a second story loft and make it into a fourth bedroom or playroom. Others have enlarged bedrooms and redesigned their kitchens.

Amenities include a full basement that can be finished by Modern Homes, 9-foot first floor ceilings, stained oak rails, ceramic flooring in the foyer and bathrooms, Frigidaire appliances, Corian solid surface countertops, fireplace with ceramic surround and oak mantel, flush oak interior doors and trim, Moen faucets, Mid-Continent raised panel oak cabinets, 30-year Elk architectural shingles, brick and Napco vinyl siding facade, and Simonton solid vinyl windows.

The 1,764-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath Auburn model was designed for the active adult couple who likes to entertain. It has an open floor plan with a foyer, a coffered-ceiling dining room, and a large great room with a stone fireplace and wood mantel. The fireplace is flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows.

The peninsula-shaped kitchen has an eating nook. A laundry room is next to the kitchen. In its own wing, the master bedroom has a separate entry niche and a bay window, and the master bath has a corner soaking tub with ceramic surround and shower. There are two additional bedrooms and this home is priced from $272,500.

Another ranch is the three-bedroom Fairfax with its optional screened porch. Buyers can add a second floor bonus room and bath that is suitable for overnight guests. The home is priced from $269,500.

Available for immediate occupancy is a two-story, 2,600-square-foot red brick Camden model priced at $369,900. With three bedrooms and 2½ baths, the entryway leads into the combination living room and dining room separated by pillars. Straight ahead is an open kitchen with maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, Corian® countertops and a center island next to the two-story family room with its own marble surround fireplace. There's also a first-floor study or play room.

Upstairs, there is a large master bedroom with whirlpool tub and walk-in closet. The Juliet balcony overlooks the two-story family room and may be enclosed to create a fourth bedroom or game room. A second floor laundry room is a convenient addition.
