Two churches unite Sunday for outdoor worship
Logan Street Baptist Church and Batavia United Methodist Church will have their fifth annual joint outdoor service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Peg Bond Center, just north of Houston Street and east of Island Avenue at Batavia's Riverwalk.
The community is invited to join the service and stay for "food, fellowship and fun," according to Kirsti Nolberto, office administrator for Logan Street Baptist Church.
"We want the community to know we are here to serve the Lord," she said.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and soft drinks will be served after the service. Guests can bring a dish to share but it isn't necessary.
The combined fellowship, which the two churches began five years ago, has become a tradition.
"It's an opportunity to be part of an exciting start to the new year, and to celebrate the beginning of the ministry year" said the Rev. Michael Stoner, senior pastor of Batavia United Methodist Church. "Both churches can reach out to those who have been absent over the summer.
"It's a worship service that combines varied styles," he added. "It's good to see the friends we have known for five years, to re-connect with this other community. And it's really nice to be outside."
Canopies will be set up for the elderly and those with special needs, but guests are asked to bring their own lawn chair or a blanket.
The Rev. David Seymour of Logan Street Baptist Church will deliver the message, and the Rev. Jeffry Bross of Batavia United Methodist Church will give the children's message.
Two choirs from each church will sing. Batavia United Methodist Church will provide keyboards, guitars, drums and other instruments.
